(Reporter: paul.raper, Unassigned)
Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:63.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/63.0
Build ID: 20180924202103
Steps to reproduce:
I have Nightly installed on a Windows 10 Enterprise machine, when I click on the desktop icon Nightly does not start.
Actual results:
After clicking on the quick start icon there is no response, nor when I double click on the DT icon, and it refuses to start when I try under admin role.
I deinstalled the program and tried a fresh install, but still the same outcome.
Expected results:
The program should open.
I'm not sure which version it is, but it affects the latest version I downloaded just now on October 2 2018 at 12:42 European time (Zürich)

works for me with the latest nightly on Windows 10.
Is this a first time installation of the nightly version on that system ?

If you're currently using Beta 63 on the same machine, could you please open about:support, click on the "Copy text to clipboard" button, paste it into a text file and upload it here (Attach File)? Thanks!

We have a known issue due to bug 1488554 with some security software (example: bug 1495114)
Do you have security software installed on your system ?

The PC has McAvee and Windows Defender. I am also using Firefox Developer version with no problems.
I do know that MS had a similar problem with Edge.

Just a thought.

There is bug 1496078 with the same symptoms and he also has McAfee installed.
There was a change in the way Firefox starts and some security applications seem block Firefox with that change.
I'm pretty sure that your problem is the same (caused by McAfee) but could you confirm that a build from the following directory works :
https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/nightly/2018/09/2018-09-26-14-20-55-mozilla-central-l10n/
Note: The different builds there are for different languages as you can see at the language code in the filename.
and this one fails to start:
https://download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net/pub/firefox/nightly/2018/09/2018-09-26-22-01-46-mozilla-central-l10n/
I would mark this report a dupe of bug 1496078 after you confirmed

Ok, just as I think you thought. The version from the second, lower link, didn't start whereas the version from the upper link does.
Thank you for your help.
