As of now, it's impossible to turn off Freetype 2 support from within the
browser. The only way to turn this new Anti-Aliasing (which drives me and a lot
of people mad) off is to hand-edit, /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref/unix.js which
is not a suitable option. It should be possible to disable it from the browser
itself, especially seeing as it doesn't even always work right for those who
like it either: see http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149571
Reproducible: Always

you can set any pref (including those in unix.js)in your profile's prefs.js and,
which is generally a bit easier. There are *many* more prefs available to set
than there are prefs in edit->preferences.
I think what you're looking for is a pref panel. the pref panel for
antialiasing is bug 112506. I am unaware of an analogous bug for freetype

This is a dup of the pref panel RFE.
