Under Win95 (950B), when configuring to manual proxy configuration and using SOCKS host, the brower reports "Connection Refused" when attempting to connect to any web page. The same exact settings work fine under Win98 and Win2K. This was tested on 5 different Win95 systems with identical results.

I've been looking for someone to help with SOCKS. Would you be interested? Please look at bug 129045, and make this a dupe if it is the same problem.

This does not appear to be the same bug. The two main differences I see are the he appears to be using socks4 and not 5. The other, he is getting a totally different error which is sent in HTML. My error is a mozilla pop up window stating connection refused from the socks server. Please note that I am NOT using any authentication methods.
+qawanted - Win 95 is not high on the priority list (vs. Win98)
Summary: Socks proxy does not work under windows 95 → Socks: does not work under (Win95 only)
Mozilla works like a hot damn at home on Win 98 but at work it is slow and ultimatyely crashes generating Netscape 6 errors. Yes, I have all the Win 95 patches. You should consider the market for those of us with older browsers.
Keith: are you using socks as well? if not, please file a new bug.
Target Milestone: --- → Future
Keith: were you specifically talking about Windows 95 w/ SOCKS? if so, you can set this bug to new. Most groups working on Mozilla are not actively supporting Win95, so a second person in the community needs to vouch for the veracity of this report.
Summary: Socks: does not work under (Win95 only) → SOCKS: does not work under (Win95 only)
Anyone using SOCKS with a recent Mozilla version?
RESOLVED/WONTFIX. Win XP SP2 is about to come out soon. That gives some perspective on the degree of security risk a Win95 user would have. We really should stop supporting Win95, so I'm calling the ball, and closing this bug.
