Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0

Steps to reproduce:

0. Windows 10 Pro with touch screen input
1. Turn tablet mode on
2. Launch Firefox

Actual results:

Firefox started in a window.
In tablet mode there is no maximize button. In order to maximize the browser you have to slide the window to one side of the screen and snap it. This way the browser will resize to fit half of the screen. Then you can "stretch" the window and it will resize to the whole screen.

Expected results:

Firefox should start maximized.
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; x64; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0

Hi reporter,

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue.
However, I was not able to reproduce the issue you mentioned following the steps provided, on the latest 62 Release Build or latest Nightly build (20181017101626).
In both cases, Firefox opened properly (maximized).

Could you please retest this using the latest FF release and latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile, maybe even safe mode, to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause (https://goo.gl/PNe90E).

Okay, it turns out that a "restore session" setting is causing the problem. It also restores previous window size and position, which should not happen while tablet mode is on.

Reproduction:
0. I have installed Firefox Nightly (64.0a1). I have also created a new test user account for a fresh start.
1. Turn tablet mode on.
2. Launch Firefox.
3. Firefox starts maximized - OK
4. Turn tablet mode off.
5. Resize the browser window, so it is not maximized.
6. Exit browser (via quit button).
7. Turn tablet mode on.
8. Launch Firefox.
9. Firefox starts maximized - OK
10. Go to settings and enable "restore session", it is the first check box ("Przywracanie ostatniej sesji" on my PC).
11. Turn tablet mode off.
12. Resize the browser window, so it is not maximized.
13. Exit browser (via quit button).
14. Turn tablet mode on.
15. Launch Firefox.
16. Firefox is not maximized - NOT OK

Thank you for your reply.

Following the steps above, I was able to reproduce the behavior you mentioned: After enabling Session Restore and resizing the browser in desktop mode, launching Firefox in tablet mode will indeed open it in the prior state (resized).

Although this is a tablet mode related issue, it might also be related to an older issue reported here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=384278

I'm going to add this to Firefox: Session Restore component for a more advised input.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Component: Untriaged → Session Restore
Ever confirmed: true
Blocks: ss-feature
Priority: -- → P3

Still happening few months later on the latest build of windows 10.

It also happens when you close Firefox in split screen mode.

Steps:

  1. Open Firefox in tablet mode
  2. Flick it to the left or right side
  3. Close Firefox
  4. Open Firefox
  5. Firefox opens maximized
  6. Firefox switches to the size of the splitted screen before
  7. You have to move the window to the other side to activate split screen and then maximize it

Expected behavior:
Stay maximized.

Severity: normal → S3
