Linked is an example of an offending file, which when you click it results in a
screen full of crap. Normally this can be avoided by option-clicking the link to
the file instead, but its a bigger problem when combined with a site that "auto
starts" a download for you like version tracker does. Like here:

http://www.versiontracker.com/php/dlpage.php?id=12703&kind=1&db=mac

A quick head of the above archive file yeilds the following:

% curl -I http://idisk.mac.com/jwood/Public/Proteus.dmg.gz
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Date: Sat, 08 Jun 2002 00:59:02 GMT
Content-Length: 2310597
Content-Type: text/plain
Server: Apache/1.3.14 (Unix) DAV/1.0.2
Last-Modified: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 06:18:41 GMT
ETag: "80627b-2341c5-3cb52ac1"
Content-Encoding: x-gzip

I'll be emailing Apple as well, but I wanted this on the record here.
I found the contact form at
http://survey.info.apple.com/feedback/downloadform.html. I sent them a message.

I have just sent a new message since they have not fixed the issue yet.

Going through my bugs and updating: Still sending the above file as
text/plain... which is an issue in mozilla builds but Chimera seems to be
starting a download anyway.

This is still a problem. On a fresh Panther/10.3.3 install, using today's Camino
(2004042818 (v0.7+)), I got the "screen full of ****" by doing this:

1. Go to http://www.mozilla.org/developer/
2. Click on the link at the very bottom to download the latest Camino binary
(labelled "Camino: MacOS X"), which goes to
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/nightly/latest/Camino.dmg.gz

Also while it was downloading and filling up the screen buffer (with ****), I
got the spinning ball and was unable to cancel or do anything else until it was
finished.
the linked url is 404. dmg's and exe's download ok now. marking fixed.
