I might be interested in looking into this code myself as part of a follow-up to see if I can clarify some of the object lifetimes & lifecycles because right now I find them a bit hard to follow, but I don't want that to necessarily block landing this behind a pref.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think generally these JS IPDL bugs should be filed under IPC, not DOM: Content Processes.
