Steps to reproduce:
Installed Linux Mint
Opened Thunderbird
Logged into my @outlook account.
Sent emails.
Opened Sent folder
Seen duplicate sends
Actual results:
Appears to retrieve a copy from IMAP of the sent and keeps a local copy
Expected results:
1 copy of sent email in sent folder

What happens if you repair the folder? Right-click, Properties, "Repair Folder". I suspect there is some other cause. Is there an "Outlook" configuration option to keep sent mail in the folder? TB will also store the sent message. Please check in your account settings under "Copies & Folders".

Thanks Jorg looks like it was just a inexperienced user error:)
There was indeed a setting under copies and folders that was duplicating them.
