User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:63.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/63.0

Steps to reproduce:

Search for text on a page after pressing Ctrl+F.


Actual results:

While typing the first few characters, every functions as expected. The first hit is selected. I continue typing in new characters, and more characters are selected as one would expect. As soon as I press the first character, for which there are no more search results on the page, the application freezes for about half a second (the character entered last is not visible in the textbox of the search). Then, the character entered is displayed in the textbox, quickly followed by a large amount (15 - 20) of copies of the same character. The textbox is coloured with a light red, as expected, and search results on the page are deselected, as expected.


Expected results:

The application doesn't freeze, and instead prints the extra character entered in the textbox of the search. The box turns light red, and search results previously selected are unselected.

I've encountered this bug from time to time, ever since about a year. This one will be hard to reproduce: it is unclear on which pages it manifests itself, and consecutive searches on a page have not given me the same result twice. This bug deserves the lowest priority.

I verified this issue on Linux 16.04 with the latest Firefox release version 63.0.2 (64-bit) and I cannot reproduce it. 
Can you please test this in safe mode? Here is a link that can help you: https://goo.gl/AR5o9d.
I think it will be a good idea to retest this on the latest Firefox Nightly. Here is a link form where you can download it: https://nightly.mozilla.org.

I also cannot reproduce it reliably, it only happens incidentally. Unfortunately I can't a week in safe mode, or on a different profile. If that makes this bug unfixable, closing is an option. This bug has been manifesting itself on an up-to-date Arch Linux installation, with the latest Firefox.

If the issue is still reproducible with the latest Firefox version, feel free to reopen the bug.

The bug is still present, happened twice in the last week. It just isn't reliably reproducible. I'll leave it up to you whether to reopen.
