Details

When downloading file from a Web-based FTP application (one built in-house here at UT), earlier versions of Mozilla (as late as rc1) would accept (not add to) the preexisting filename extension of the file to be downloaded. Also the "Save as Type" in the dialog box defaulted to "All Files". Now in 1.0 (2002053012), the save dialog box appends '.download' to the filename and defaults the "Save as Type" to "download". So I have to manually revise the name (and to see everything in the target directory, I have to manually change the "Save as Type" back to "All Files"). For example, if I go to download index.wbs (this is a web script piece of a type we use here at UT Austin), formerly Mozilla would leave the name as "index.wbs" and the "Save as Type" as "All Files". So I could just click OK. Now it changes the filename to "index.wbs.download" and the "Save as Type" to "Download". The maintainers of the FTP application have not changed it, and IE still behaves the same, so it must be due to Mozilla. I can't give you access to that UT application, but a similar problem occurs when downloading files from other sites - for example, from "Save link target" in the right-click menu. Based on some criteria that are not apparent to me, it decides to append, for example, '.txt' onto the filename. I'd like to request (a) that the browser always accept the preexisting filename extension without interference or complaint and (b) that the "Save as Type" always default to "All Files". Note, this differs from 142102 - unlike that reporter's experience, once I manually change the filename extension, it gets saved correctly.
