From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020529
BuildID: 2002052918
I went to place an ad by clicking the above URL. I got a small pop-up window,
maybe 2 inches square, tried to close it and got a larger one, about the size of
an X10 ad, then closed that one and it opened a full-sized window. When I closed
that window Mozilla crashed quickly.
When restarted, Mozilla opened fine and displayed the browser and mail windows.
It froze whenever I tried to access any URL, including from HTML mail in the
mail client.
I've noted this behavior before, it's usually the symptom of a faulty Mozilla
User Profile folder, which means I have to make a new folder, and then drag my
old stuff into it and then go reset all my preferences.
And the hard drive will grind forever; once I left it run all night and in the
morning it was still working.
A few days ago I'd backed up my Mozilla folder, so I had a relatively fresh
folder and it had the same salted code.I copied items over from the backup
folder to the distressed folder one at a time, and then started Mozilla to see
if it would work.
Here's the list, in order:
prefs.js
chrome
XUL Fastload
prefs.bak
So far, no workie.
Cache
Mozilla took a bit longer to start up, but then worked; I'm using it now. The
reason I'm listing everything is that I can't be sure that the Cache folder
alone would fix the problem.
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to the above URL
2. Keep closing the pop-up windows
3.
Actual Results: Mozilla crashes and won't work upon restart.
Expected Results: Pretty obvious
All of the boxes were checked under Scripts and Windows in the prefs, which was
not how I'd had it last time I checked, which was before using 1.0.0 final. I
unchecked them and going back to that URL is problem-free.

wfm using build 2002061104 on Win2k (trunk).
Severity: normal → critical
Keywords: crash,
stackwanted
Carl, merely visiting that URL as you describe in your Step 1 doesn't result in
any new windows opening. Does that only happen after you "Send Ad?"
carl, is this still a problem using more recent builds?
-->Networking: Cache for now.

Apologise for the delay in responding. I have not had a chance to download a
recent build (22k connection), but will post again ASAP when I get one.
I originally went to this link: <http://www.sunspot.net/classified/genmerch/>
and clicked the link called "Place A Classified Ad". The URL in my original
post is from that link. So you could try going at it that way.
I can't afford the time to redo my Moz prefs until the weekend at least, but
will try again then and report.
No activity on this for awhile. The original problem was before we went final
with moz 1.0, so I'm marking this WORKSFORME.
Carl, if you see this problem again, please feel free to reopen the bug and
we'll keep investigating. Thanks.
