I'm sorry if this is spam, but I saw somewhere that reproducing slowdowns in Firefox was hard for the dev team, so whenever possible it's useful for people to upload gecko profiles when the slowdown occurs.

I was going through my emails in GMail and then decided to start working on a Google Doc, so I opened Google Drive and created a new doc. At that point my computer fan went into overdrive, and I popped open Activity Monitor and noticed that nsurlsessiond was taking a lot of CPU along with Firefox (several FirefoxCP Web Content processes were at the top along with the Firefox process). My compputer is running macOS 10.14.1 (18B75), it's a 15-inch 2016 MPB w/ a 2.9 GHz i7, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 ram, an SSD, and a dedicated/integrated GPU (I believe that the dedicated, Radeon Pro 460 4096 MB was running because I have my laptop plugged in atm).

Hey Florian, this bug report has a really interesting profile with long hangs, but nothing pops out to me from our side.. It looks like google drive is just spending a lot of time on its own JS.. But can you take a look at it to see if you notice something different?

That's what I see too. There's also quite a bit of CPU time spent garbage collecting in 4 of the 5 content processes, so I wouldn't be surprised if some tabs were using a lot of memory.

Alex, thank you for reporting the bug and specially for taking the time to get a gecko profile! These reports are always useful and definitely not spam :)

After looking at this specific profile, it seems there's not a lot of actionable things to do from our side here. I've been seeing an influx of bug reports about instability on google drive, so it's possible they have had a recent bad deployment, or just general lack of testing with Firefox.

Two actionable things that I can suggest to try to improve things on your end:
 - try running Firefox in Safe Mode (which will disable all add-ons) to see if any of them are contributing for the slowness. But this sort of problem just happens occasionally, so it's not always possible to do a fair comparison.

 - look in about:memory to see if some webpage is taking too much memory.. besides the memory usage, this makes the garbage collector do more work, which ends up wasting CPU
