Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a mail preview on the side / bottom panel, which include non-ascii characters such as French accents:

> Comité de pilotage ce soir, à  17h :)

2. Change the layout to vertical viw or classic view depending on your initial view


Actual results:

The character encoding is lost and display stuff such as:

> Comité de pilotage ce soir, à   17h :)


Expected results:

The encoding should not have changed.

Additional information: this is easily fixed by displaying another mail and then this one again.

Tested on Thunderbird 60.3.1 on Windows and Linux
Does the MoreLayouts extension fix it?
