Like Netscape v4.79, we need a way to load all the plugins from the installdir/plugins directory, while also allowing the end user to use the variable to point at another plugin directory. The NS600_PLUGIN_PATH varialbe will allow a user to point to a different directory, but then they loose *ALL* of the other plugins in the installdir/plugins directory. For example, in a Sun Network Enterprise Deployment, we put several plugins into the installdir/plugins directory such as realplayer, pdf, shockwave, javaplugin, etc. When the user sets the NS600_PLUGIN_PATH to point to a different javaplugin, then they also loose the rest of the plugins. The ideal scenario would be for the user to be able to set the variable for custom plugins, but not loose all the Network deployed ones. The only workaround I know of, would be for the end user to copy all of the Network Deployed plugins into their new the plugin directory, and that isn't practical for a Network Deployment to 30,000+ employees.

Have you tried the more up-to-date variable: MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH This only works with one directory though.
on unix it easy to soft link all plugins files you need into one dir and setenv MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH to that dir.
would this be a candidate for the plug-in manager work?
marking INVALID. It's already possible to do this.

You are assuming all "end-users" know how to do symlinking. Like I said, this is for a "Network Enterprise Deployment" (all of Sun). We have tons of Marketing and Sales folks who don't know symlinking from linkin'logs. This also applies to our customers. Please at least make this work like it does in v4.79. Thanks, -kyle

What about putting plugins in ~/.mozilla/plugins?
