I would like the Download Manager to be able to download multiple files one at a
time.
For example:
I need to download 6 rpm files for the newest Mozilla release. I click on all 6
rpm files. The download manager then downloads the files one at a time until
all downloads are complete.

This would be good in many cases where bandwidth is limited on the server or
client and it would be using only one TCP connection instead of many.

Updated the summary to distuingish this one from bug 156743 which states you
cannot download more than 8 files at the same time, as given by
pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 8);

PS : this pref from all.js COULD be used as a workaround for this problem?

Perhaps a dependency could/should be added?

please see the reopened bug 168734 for the similar/related idea of file queueing
for the download manager.

Summary: [RFE] Provide an option to serialize multiple downloads [Limit number of simultaneous downloads] → Provide an option to serialize multiple downloads [Limit number of simultaneous downloads]
If the number of files downloaded simultaneously is limited, it should have a
limit that is independently adjustable (not depending on the overall number of
HTTP connections). The user should be able to specify a lower limit, such as
downloading only 1 file at a time from a server or from overall, without
affecting the existing limit of simultaneous connections the browser is allowed
to make.

Many sites, such at http://www.the-underdogs.org/, punish the user if an attempt
is made to download more than 1 archive file at a time. The sites do not mind
simultaneous downloads when rendering a simple web page, however.

Also, for politeness when serializing downloads, the user should be able to
specify a delay between consecutive files from a server. For example, after one
file finishes, the download manager might wait 5 seconds before opening the
connection for the next file.

This fits in very well with Bug 168734, the request for the ability to queue
downloads to take place at a later time. This feature would integrate well with
the ability to serialize downloads, and would make a lot of people very happy.
dupe of bug 151216 / you decide which goes through
this bug *is* bug 151216, and therefore cannot be a dupe of itself without
incurring significant ontological and/or existential pontification.

The SeaMonkey team has no intent on working on this - feel free to try doing an extension that does it with a user-friendly UI though!

This was my bug originally and I'd forgotten it its been so long.

For anyone else finding this bug, the extension that you will want (for Firefox anyway) is DownThemAll!

This is a very excellent download manager. I even sent them money!
