User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:63.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/63.0

Steps to reproduce:

Select a message (or open a msg in tab)

Actual results:

Action buttons (eg Reply, etc...) are missing in both case.
But only seems to happen to some message but not all...

Expected results:

Action buttons shall be present to allow Reply, Reply All etc... to the message.

Have you tried using the 64.0b4 version? Safe mode and/or a new profile?

I can't duplicate using a test profile with one POP3 account that only has 33 messages.

User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:64.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/64.0
Version 64.0b4
Build ID 20181129151909
Issue does not affect all emails... it seems to randomly happens... even two messages from the same sender, one may show fine, and the other not (missing action buttons)...

It affect recent or old emails... seems mostly affecting emails from Office 365 senders but I cannot confirm for sure...

Not available to me yet. It says I am up-to-date when I try to update... via Help > About

> Safe mode

Issue still occurs...

Does not occurs in new profile, with new IMAP account setup...

I use IMAP not POP3 :-) With many folders and subfolders and years of emails... only about 4000 emails in Inbox...

It happens in Inbox, following upgrade to b3, repairing folder or compacting, changing synchronisation settings (enabling o disabling local cache sync of emails) does not fix the issue... in existing profile...

I would rather wait it become available via the beta channel prior upgrading... and test again with new version...

The following appears in the console when I click on email to load content but action button missing, if that can be of any help:

XUL box for mail-headerfield element contained an inline #text child, forcing all its children to be wrapped in a block.

This is what shows in console when I click on another email from same sender where action buttons appear:

By random I meant some emails but no all. If an email is affected it is always affected and vice versa. Repeated click (or open) on the same email will always show the same behaviour one way or another... issue is consistent over time (and TB restart).
Looks like a problem introduced in bug 1489748.

As an additional test I had done for the record: If I save the "faulty" message into .eml file and try to open it from File Explorer, in my current TB "faulty" profile, same issue occurs (missing action buttons). If I open the same .eml into a new profile, the issue does not occur, action buttons appear fine.

Fix well spotted. I did try to search for similar bug at the time but without success...
I am glad it is sorted.

Would you know in which version of TB the patch will land?

I found the answer: Target Milestone: --- → Thunderbird 65.0
Target Milestone: --- → Thunderbird 65.0
It appears that the issue happened to me because I have the View > Headers > All setting set, instead of Normal by default. If I revert menu option back to Normal, the action button appears correctly.

This can be used as a workaround fix till patch land in 65.0 version.

Thanks for help.
