build 2002053012 installation of sidebars that reside on the web is possible. but installation of (self-authored) sidebars that reside locally, is *not* :-(( example: window.sidebar.addPanel("Sidebar Name", "http://someurl",""); works, but window.sidebar.addPanel("Sidebar Name", "file:///somefile",""); works not! additionally, in a sidebar only remote pages can be displayed. so, if a remote page contains location.replace('file:///c:/'); it does *not* work, but if it contains location.replace('http://foobar.com'); it works. this prevents Wish #151578 from getting true as described there
platform: winnt4 sp6a
manual adding <RDF:Description about="urn:sidebar:3rdparty-panel:file:///d:/favorites/" NC:title="IE Favorites" NC:content="file:///d:/favorites/" NC:persist="true" /> to the profile's file "panel.rdf" does not work, too :-(((( (whine)

!!! solving this issue immediately will yield a surprisingly easy solution for RFE Bug 43873 ("request for local file system browsing sidebar") by allowing file:/// as a sidebar - and you're done yeah!
I agree, michael. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 113994 ***
