User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_14_2) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/71.0.3578.98 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Download Firefox 64.0.2 (64-bit) from Mozilla's website
- Open DMG file
Actual results:
The shortcut to Applications directory didn't display name. See attached screenshot for more info.
Expected results:
It should be explicitly visible that I copy file to Applications directory.

:mhowell since you closed bug 650017, maybe you'd be interested in having a look at this.

This is intentional, there isn't supported to be a name there. But I'm not sure why that decision was made (or who made it, for that matter) or if it could/should be revisited. Dolske, you've been involved in a lot of the bugs over the years regarding this DMG packaging/branding, do you have thoughts on that, or know who might? I'll also CC spohl and shorlander, they might have input as well.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember. But I do not remember the rationale behind it. Or if there even was one.

I just downloaded Google Chrome and it behaves in a similar way: a shortcut to directory without its name. Anyway, for me personally it was confusing.

Pretty sure this is/was a common pattern of macOS app DMGs, presumably because it's a clearer way to suggest the one relevant action they should perform.
But in any case, this is not worth spending time to revisit.
