Firefox Nightly 66.0a1 20190115103851 (32-bit) on Windows 8.1

Firefox downloaded the 2019011522.. update but fails to apply it. The hamburger menu doesn't have an update badge anymore but opening its "Help" > "About Nightly" has a "Restart to update Nightly" button. Using that doesn't update Firefox.

With app.update.log set to true, the browser console opened after the launch lists these messages:

AUS:SVC Creating UpdateService
AUS:SVC readStatusFile - status: failed: 64, path: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates\3EA28945215FD6AC\updates\0\update.status
AUS:SVC UpdateService.canCheckForUpdates - able to check for updates
AUS:SVC isServiceInstalled - returning true
AUS:SVC shouldUseService - returning true
AUS:SVC getCanApplyUpdates - bypass the write checks because the Windows Maintenance Service can be used
AUS:SVC readStatusFile - status: failed: 64, path: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates\3EA28945215FD6AC\updates\0\update.status
AUS:SVC readStringFromFile - file doesn't exist: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates\3EA28945215FD6AC\updates\0\bt.result
AUS:SVC readBinaryTransparencyResult - result: null, path: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates\3EA28945215FD6AC\updates\0\bt.result

Bug 1518587 landed before that build. Dave, can you take a look at this, please?

Flags: needinfo?(dtownsend)

Bug 1518587 would likely only affect the ability to start the build after an update and that code was in the build you're already using so I'm not sure it would be related (we'd have seen this problem occur with the first nightly with the change in it).

Seems like the error the updater is hitting is WRITE_ERROR_PATCH_FILE which appears to occur when applying the patch to the install.

Thanks, have updated by installing the latest version manually.
