mpt says that the new search button as per his Navigator chrome spec (
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=65067&action=view ) should do the
following:
a) if the prefs say that the search sidebar should be opened, do so
b) if the prefs say the contrary, open the search page specified in the prefs
The latter pref only exists in mpt's ideas of a new pref structure, so for now,
only the former could be directly implemented.

This might be better off in "Preferences"; not sure.

A search button on the navigation toolbar would do the same thing as Tools >
Search the Web, which now goes to the search engine you selected in the Sidebar
(fixed in bug 86063).
uid is being phased out.

Sören, is this still a valid issue? I notice that Navigator->Internet Search
contains a checkbox similar to what you describe.

This piece of search functionality behaves as expected and I don't expect it to
be changed.
