User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Steps to reproduce:

Wrote email. Pressed send. The (check-on-send) activated.

Actual results:

The (check-on-send) spell checker was set to US English, though in the past - and more than once - I have set it to British English.

Expected results:

The language should be set and forget. It should not revert at every update or whatever it is is that causes the reversion. Cf. perhaps #1197557. This is (frankly, one of several) irritations caused by Thunderbird.

What do you have selected for the Language under Tools > Options > Composition > Spelling?

Thunderbird defaults to that selection in the Composition window and checking before sending.

What do you have selected for the Language under Tools > Options > Composition > Spelling?

'English (United Kingdom)'.

The spell checking language DOES NOT reset unless one of the following occurs:

  • You restart in safe mode, hence will all add-ons and dictionaries disabled. Surely you'll drop back to en-US then since it's the only pre-installed dictionary.
  • You change the spelling language in a chat conversation. That affected the global pref. That's fixed in TB 68.
  • Some add-on messed with it.

I'm closing this. Feel free to reopen if you can provide REPRODUCIBLE steps.
