Steps to reproduce:

• Firefox is up to date.
• Hardware acceleration on/off didn't fix this.
• No add ons/ safe mode didn't fix this.
• New profile didn't fix this.
• I have a NVIDIA GTX 980 TI with 417.71 driver.
• I have a Intel i7 965 that is overclocked to 3.9ghz and 12GB of ram.

Actual results:

Dropped frames in various 720p 1080p 2160p 60fps YouTube videos and few 4K 30fps videos.

Expected results:

This PC should be able to view 4K 60FPS videos without any stutter or frame drops. Edge shows no stutter or frame drops on same videos tested.

I have the same issue on FF71 on Win10, but only on specific 60FPS videos. For example, this video @ 1080p60FPS drops frames at an alarming rate, to the point that it's barely possible to tolerate the stutter.

Tested:

• Against both Edge and Chrome, neither of which dropped any frames
• on FF with / without H/W decoding: no difference
• on FF in safe mode with add-ons disabled: no difference

System specs:

• GTX 1060 6GBVRAM
• AMD FX-6300 upto 4.1Ghz
• 8GB 1600Mhz RAM
• Windows 10 b1903
• Display resolution 1440x900 at 75Hz

How is it even possible that all the up-to-date browsers struggle with simple 60fps video playback on Youtube, while even the ancient Internet Explorer plays 60fps videos with 0 framedrops. (old) Edge and Internet Explorer must be doing something right in that regard and its a joke that there hasn't been any progress in this case. I mean it's Youtube..
