Select Tools > Options > General tab.
Remove the check mark for "Show an Alert"
Close Options.
Reopen Tools > Options > General tab,
"Show an Alert" is checked and enabled again.
The preference should still be disabled.
Tried other tabs and changes to preferences. None are sticking except for changes in Advanced.

Geoff, what's going on here? TB would be pretty useless if you can't set options.
Walter: We're only sporadically triaging new bugs, so filing a bug doesn't mean that anyone will see or action it. Please make the "appropriate noise" bu CC'ing or NI'ing people.

It doesn't work in 66 beta 2. I have browser.preferences.instantApply set to true. The following doesn't work:
Open options to "Composition", "General".
Untick "Check for missing attachments".
Close options tab. Open again. It's ticked again :-(

Hmm, seems to work when the pref is set in prefs.js. I don't get it. So theoretically uplift of bug 1527017 will fix this.

Should be fixed by bug 1526418. Let's check it in TB 66 beta 2 build 2.
