Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • Did a clean install of Thunderbird to try to escape bugs.
  • Copied my IMAP folders from my old installation to new one.
  • Found I had to recreate filters.
  • Did so.

Actual results:

One of my filters - a filter that moves e-mails - does not run until I restart Tbird. I am unsure yet whether the problem is constant or intermittent.

Yesterday, instead of the problem mentioned, I had 'ghosts', i.e. e-mails that should have been moved by the filters remained in the inbox but were blank when opened.

Expected results:

The filter should run (work) automatically (on mail receipt, as I specified in the filter rule) and manually.

I will provide any logs that will help.

There was at least one bug report about this in the past - and I recall that the problem was said there to be very long-standing - but at present I fail to find any extant report.

Pehaps you can find a matching report in https://mzl.la/2HiQ560

Note, if "recreate filters" means you copied a filter file from your old profile - copying a file into a profile when Thunderbird is running and expecting the file to be opened/used isn't supported, but might work after a restart

Summary: Filer does not run until TB is restarted → Filter copied into profile does not run until TB is restarted

Wayne, the reporter doesn't talk about copying filters. He/she said that the filters were recreated, see comment #0.

Anyway, let's close this.
