User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

Steps to reproduce:

Thunderbird 66.0b1 64-bit, Linux OpenSUSE Leap 15.0, Gnome 3.26.2

Reading newsgroup messages in e.g. mozilla.support.thunderbird on news.mozilla.org, expanding and collapsing a given thread in the thread pane.

Actual results:

Upon expanding and collapsing a thread the behavior is sluggish, and there is a noticeable delay.
Also happens in safe mode.

Expected results:

Expanding and collapsing a thread should be instantaneous.

I have noticed the same sluggish behavior with the FF66 beta Library when expanding and collapsing a bookmarks folder.
So this doesn't appear to be specific to Thunderbird.

Christian, this previously didn't happen, i.e. this is a regression?
If so can you find the regression range with nightly builds?

I think this started with v66.
It appears the sluggish behavior doesn't occur anymore with the latest beta, neither with FF66.0b14 nor with TB 66.0b3.

Was it only with news, and not mail?

Presumably it was the same for mail.
