okay, this might fall under the realm of "mysterious machine-specific issue or
user misunderstanding." i cannot seem to save files using today's
(2002.06.19.05) build --y'day's (2002.06.18.05) still works fine for me.
a couple of tests i ran:
recipe A:
1. go http://mozilla.org/
2. hit cmd+S or File > Save As
3. select "save as html source" --keep the same filename, or change it (doesn't
seem to matter, afaict). make sure to save onto the desktop.
4. hit Save.
recipe B:
1. go http://mozilla.org/
2. bring up the context menu for the "Roadmap" link on the left and select "save
link as". again, it doesn't seem to matter if you keep the name or change it.
3. make sure that the file will be saved to the desktop, then hit Save.
results for A and B: the download progress window appears to complete just fine.
however, when i go to the desktop, i don't see the files. i used Sherlock to
search my machine, and it couldn't find the files.
is there something i might've missed? other things i could try for this?

This works for me in the 2002-06-19-05 build. After switching to finder, I see
the files placed on my desktop.

I am having the same problem. I download files from VersionTracker.com and they
appear on my desktop. When I switch to the finder to expand them, they
disappear. Sherlock is unable to find them anywhere on my hard drive. I
restarted and re-installed Navigator and it still doesn't work. I even tried
changing download folders and I can't find any files I download.

I downloaded the 6/20 chimera bits with the 6/19 build,
the file showed up in the file system but not on the Desktop until
I did View|Clean Up. The file looked ok to me (not zero length, didn't disappear).

still cannot download using 6/20 bits --also, it doesn't matter if the target is
the desktop or another folder. tried a cold start (just to be sure), as well as
View > Clean All, but still no go. :(

since more ppl have been seeing (eg, some email feedback), i'm going to mark
this as a blocker. at the moment it currently blocks my downloading testing.
side note: i've also tried this at other sites: os x app downloads at apple.com,
trying to save pages at various friends' personal sites, etc.
Blocks: 147975
Severity: critical → blocker

I think I have a fix. I went to the "o5yrchir.slt" folder and deleted everything
except my bookmark and cookie files. I then re-launched Navigator and I was able
to download without any problems. I can't tell you which file was corrupt, but
it worked for me.

I know why this has been happening, and a patch for it appears
(or will in about 5 minutes) in bug 152629.
Quick explanation & a workaround:
In the ProgresDlgController patch that landed a day or two ago,
once a download is finished, the window checks to see if the "close when
done" pref was set, and if so, closes the window. This occurs exactly
1 line before the "download complete" variable is set to yes.
Unfotunately, when the window is about to close, it checks to see if
"download complete" is set to yes. If it isn't, it decides we must
be trying to cancel the download so merrily deletes the downloaded file.
Whoops.
So, 2 workarounds:
1) make sure your download window is set to "leave open when done."
2) delete your .mozilla directory and relaunch. This resets all prefs
to their defaults, which includes having the download window set
to "leave open when done"
I'd choose workaround 1, but don't let me pressure you. :)
