Platform: SuSE Leap 42.3 platform; the code for Thunderbird was downloaded from the Main Update Repository (SuSE).

Attempts to edit contact entries could not be entered - could not complete with the [OK] button. Had to cancel operation; address book left as is.

After replacing the profile from a backup, the entries still could not be edited. I dropped back from v. 60.5.0-83.1 to v. 60.3.0-80.1 and now the address book is working properly.

I have also reported this on a SuSE forum (see url below).

To be certain that my installation of v. 60.5- wasn't at fault, I reloaded 60.5 and the error re-appeared - could not edit a contact and save with the edit. Re-installed 60.3 and now it's working again.

To further test whether the address book error is limited to the installation on the one workstation, I attempted to create and save new entries in fresh Thunderbird installations on two other machines - both running the same OS - SuSE Leap 42.3.

Same behavior - version 60.5.0- (the most recent release) fails; version 60.3.0- works.

Geoff, like bug 1514126, someone else who can't edit contacts. I believe I uplifted some AB changes between 60.3 and 60.5.

If any files/reports/etc. would be helpful, please let me know what you need.

Do you see the same errors seen here in the red box and below it?

Please tell me how to generate this information (or point me to a page that explains this),

I did find the page Document.getElementById() on developer.mozilla.org but it's not immediately clear how this would work. I also looked briefly at developer toolbox and error console - perhaps one of those tools would help.

Thanks.

The error console (Tools > Developer Tools > Error Console) will show that sort of thing. Open it, then go to your address book and attempt to edit a contact.

Here is the error console when I attempted to edit and then create a new entry. I was not able to save either.

And thanks for your instructions.

Looks like bug 1521454, which is listed as fixed in 60.5.1. I guess you need to wait until SuSE updates.

Thanks. I suspected that I would need to wait until either Thunderbird or something in the SuSE distribution was updated or otherwise modified.

If I understand it correctly from the report in bug 1521454, the problem develops when the rangeError is generated and somehow is not caught and corrected. If you can point me to a general discussion of this process (i.e., error resolution), I would be interested in learning how this works.

To be honest, finding that bug straight away was a bit of a fluke. The messages about the datepicker sent me straight to the file's history because I know that code isn't in the best condition. (In fact I just last week deleted it.)

OK, so this is due to the locale and fixed in bug 1521454.

Gentlemen -

Novell SuSE released v. 60.5.1 yesterday (https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-updates/2019-02/msg00140.html), and similarly for other SuSE releases (e.g., Leap 15.0 and Enterprise 12). I loaded it on my system, and am now able to create new address book contacts and edit them as well.

Thank you for quickly identifying the problem and thanks again for instructions on the use of the error console.

You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
