The existing content blocking description are a little too customized to tracking. Since we're adding new blockers like fingerprinting or cryptomining it would be great to have them reflect that it could be all sorts of blocking going on, not just trackers.

This is also being covered in Bug 1529517, since we need more generic descriptions to cover changing the contents of each category dynamically. So long as you are talking about the category descriptions, not the header summary.

Here is new copy for the description that appears under content blocking.
Protect your privacy while you browse. Reduce how many trackers can follow you online. Block invisible content that collects info about you and your devices. Learn more

Thanks Betsy. This doesn't address the problem explained in Comment 0 -- the new copy is still framed around "privacy" and "trackers", while Content Blocking will now block domains that aren't trackers and have no impact on user privacy (i.e., cryptominers).

This is intentional. What's available in Standard and Strict does relate to trackers. "Block invisible content that collects info about you and your devices." is meant to focus on what's in Custom.

Quick note on this: Betsy and I chatted offline -- she's planning to sync with the team and follow up.

Ok, setting needinfo to clarify that we still need input from Betsy on this.
Thanks!

New copy for about:preferences#privacy, and also approved by legal.
Protect your privacy while you browse. Block invisible content that tracks the sites you visit and profiles you. Blocking some of this content may make pages load faster. Learn more
