Request Description

We would like to ask a variety of general Facebook-privacy related questions:

General questions:

• How much do people value privacy protection over convenience? For instance, if more protection breaks a social login will users adapt and login differently or will they decrease their privacy settings?
• How many users rely on FB SSO for access to websites? Which kinds of sites?
• For users who are privacy-proactive (careful online, installs add-ons, savvy, etc.) how often do they “share” things on FB? What is their threshold for social media?
• Clarify value proposition - what user needs should we be targeting/addressing?

Addon-specific UI Questions:

• What is an effective visual confirmation that the FB Container protection is installed?
• What is an effective visual cue that the FB Container is “working” (outside of facebook.com)?
• What are effective visual cues that FB Container is “working” on facebook.com?
• Do users understand what they are being protected from?
• How much on-boarding is appropriate (e.g. we test three panels vs five panels)
• Do the icons make sense? (the Fence, and whatever else we include)
• Do users understand what “adding a site to your facebook container” means?

Understanding Mental Models of Facebook + Tracking

• What are people most worried about Facebook? Is there a difference between Facebook vs. non Facebook users?
• What are people’s motivation to use Facebook container?
• Do people understand that they’re affected as a non Facebook user?

How much do people understand the different ways that Facebook tracks them? How can we educate users about these tracking methods, and how do we best convey how we are trying to protect them? Specifically, methods include:

• Connecting users’ browsing history to their Facebook login
• Tracking users’ browser history on third-party sites, even if they don’t have a - Facebook account or they are logged out
• Tracking outbound links that users click on in their Facebook.com timeline

Mental Models: Metaphors and Naming

• What do users think a Firefox “container” does?
• What’s a good name for the addon? It’s currently “Facebook Container”, but could we test some alternatives? Would renaming it lose the benefit of continuity with previous marketing campaigns?

Additionally, we are very interested in possibilities for rapid iteration on the design with continuous user feedback -- the RITE method, for example.
