Adding the line: user_pref("browser.tabs.loadInBackground", true); to user.js in order to force Chimera to open new tabs in the background causes a visual glitch in the tab bar.

With this argument set, selecting "open in new tab" from a context menu will cause the link to open in the background as expected. However, there is a visual gap between the bottom of the linkbar and the top of the tab bar through which you can see the current page.

Clicking on the newly created tab to switch pages will cause the separation to fix itself. As long as the bar is visible, new background tabs can be loaded without incident.

If you return to a single page (causing the bar to disappear) and then call a new background tab,the separation will show itself when the bar is re-created.

Tested on nightly builds from 6/17 and 6/21

 Mac OS X 10.1.5, iMac Rev B.
Summary: Visual seperation in tab bar when using user.js to force tabs to open in background → Visual separation in tab bar when using user.js to force tabs to open in background
Mike, can you attach a screenshot of the problem?
Confirmed using Chimera/20020621, but only if there are no tabs already open.

(Never mind about the screenshot, Mike; I made one.)

Does this happen in a recent build (on a page with no plugins)? I thought I
fixed this ages ago.
It still happens in the build from 30 Oct 02. Go to www.apple.com (no plug-ins
on this page to my knowledge) and command-shift-click to create a background tab
(remember, this only happens with background tabs and only the first one) and
you will see Apple's tab bar at the top reflected in the Tab bar. If you click
on the background tab you just created, the relection goes away.
Using Build ID: 2002110804, I can't replicate the bug by following Albert's instructions in
comment #8.

However, I've found you can still expose the behavior in Javascript sized and popped
windows.

1.) Open prefs and disable pop-up blocking if enabled.
2.) Go to http://www.americaspromise.org/
3.) There should be a pop-up message. Select to focus the pop-up window and CMD-E
to open a source tab. Note the thin white rectangle above the tabs where the interface
ice is missing.
I am still able to replicate this bug as of Build ID: 2002112904

Summary: Visual separation in tab bar when using user.js to force tabs to open in background → When bookmarks toolbar hidden, showing tabs leaves visual garbage

I think I figured out why other can't see this bug (because of a bug someone
else reported and was marked a dupe). It only happens if you have the bookmarks
toolbar hidden and then command-shift click a link to create a background tab
(and the planets have to align just right).

Still happening as of Build ID: 2003010204. Using Mac OS 10.2.3
Mike or Albert, can you still reproduce this problem using a current nightly build?
I can still replicate the bug using a modified version of the steps shown in <a
href="http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=153469#c9">comment #9</a> in
the April 1 bld. Step 2 no longer seems to work (guess the site dropped
pop-ups). The replacement instructions for step 2 would be to go to
http://www.lewisfrancis.com/ and click on any of the comments links -- this will
spawn a sized window from which the bug can be demonstrated by following the
remaining steps.
Using the April 2nd nightly, I followed the steps in comment #9, substituting
http://www.americaspromise.org (no pop up there) with http://www.msnbc.com

Since I have no cookie set at MSNBC, it presented me with a small pop-up
window. Clicking Cmd + E to spawn a source display in a background tab of the
pop up window caused the bug to show itself.

The bug does not occur in the main browser window, even with 0.7 release.

Other notes that may or may not be of interest: I tested while running a theme
(BBX Mercury) and I had to leave my desk at which point the system went to
protected screensaver and monitor went to sleep, upon returning and exiting the
screensaver the visual space was gone though I never clicked the source tab.
According to Commend #7: the bug still occures in the recent v0.7 nightly build
(no 2003060104) // under the described circumstances (one tab open, no bookmarks
toolbar).

This is still the case in the current nightly (3 May 2004).
This is still the case in the current nightly (3 May 2004).
Fixed with new tab code and new bookmark manager code.
