Firefox Sync Account doesn't display correct device name for Fennec F-Droid

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0
Steps to reproduce:
- Install Fennec F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid/
- Link to Firefox Sync Account
- Change device name in Sync settings
Actual results:
After linking the Fennec F-Droid App to Firefox Sync, the device is listed as "Firefox 65, Android" in Firefox Account, no matter how many times I sync and refresh.
This doesn't happen for Firefox Android downloaded from Play Store, which shows up with the name I choose.
This is extremely confusing because all Fennec instances of many devices end up shown with the same device name.
I experienced this bug across many versions of the app and it prevented me to use Fennec F-Droid for a long time on Android devices.
Expected results:
Firefox Sync Account should display the chosen device name as specified in settings.

Hi,
I managed to reproduce this issue with Fennec F-Droid.
For myself the device is listed as Firefox 66, Android - even if in the Fennec Sync settings i have Fennec F-Droid set as device name.
For reproducing the issue I used as device Sony Xperia Z5, Android (7.0.0) and Fennec F-Droid - identified with Firefox Release 66.0.2 but also with Fennec F-droid 66.0.5 - with which the same outcome is present.
I will mark the ticket as new.
Regards,
Diana

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 1496258 ***
Not a dulplicate of that one because:
- this is a bug involving Fennec F-Droid only, the other one involves Firefox Android
- this bug also prevents from deleting the device added through Fennec F-Droid (no matter how many times you hit delete it cannot be deleted), confirmed on different accounts and different devices, all on Fennec F-Droid, main Firefox Android works as expected.
Please, remove that label

If this is f-droid only then report it to them. They make their own builds and have their own issue tracker.

Do you even know what Fennec F-Droid is? F-Droid is just to specify who built it.

Either this is a dupe as previously resolved or invalid because f-droid does their own builds. F-droid builds apps from source to make sure it fits with their requirements.

F-droid builds apps from source to make sure it is from a reputable source, that's the exact same code minus proprietary stuuf, thus not related to this sync issue, so stop closing it for no reason, putting dust under the carpet doesn't make a house clean.

:ffb, as a new user to Bugzilla, please refer to the Bugzilla Etiquette guidelines which specifically request users do not engage in these kinds of arguments about "invalid" status:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html
that's the exact same code minus proprietary stuff
The "minus proprietary stuff" part could easily be interfering with proper registration of the FxA device record. For example, the FxA device record includes a push notification endpoint, which on android uses google's proprietary push infrastructure. Removal of that code could be causing the device registration to fail.
Absent any evidence that this is not an F-droid specific problem, we are extremely unlikely to take any action on this bug. Please do not re-open it.
this bug also prevents from deleting the device added through Fennec F-Droid (no matter how many times you hit delete it cannot be deleted)
Do you mean you're unable to delete it through the "devices and apps" list on the Firefox Accounts website? If so, this does sound like something we can take action on, and I would welcome a separate bug report in the Firefox Accounts service component here:
