[Steps to reproduce]:
- Launch Firefox.
- Access the following link:

- Mute the audio from sound button bar by pulling the button from right to left.
- Access the context menu from audio bar to unmute the audio.

Mute/Unmute the audio from context menu should been working even if the audio was muted by pulling the sound bar button to the left.

The sound button shows mute, context menu mute/unmute item not working.
[Regression range]:
This seems to be a regression. I will come back with a regression range asap.

Could you please NI me once you find a regression range, or if you're unable to find one? This looks like it may be a UI issue, but if we're able to pin down a regression range that will better help us identify the cause.

I investigated this issue with mozregression, but it seems builds all the way back to Firefox 46.0a1 are affected so I don't think this qualifies as a regression, so I will remove the 'regressionwindow-wanted' keyword.

Reproduced on latest Nightly 73.0a1 (10.12.2019) on Windows 7.

Hi,
I've tested this using the latest Nightly version 74.0a1 (2020-01-13) (64-bit) for Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and I’m able to reproduce the issue. Based on this I will mark firefox74 flag as affected.
Best,
Clara

I don't think this is a bug, because a media element has volume and muted and they are different. Dragging the volume bar adjusts volume
, and clicking on the speaker or the option on the context menu adjusts muted
.
So even if volume=0
, muted
can still be false
. The reasonable enhenmance would probably be not to show mute/unmute
when volume is zero, but that is a very little enhancemance and not sure if we really need that.

I tend to concur with alwu - this is due the some ambiguity in the UI here where the player conflates volume at 0 with muting, and shows the same icon in either state.
Hey Ania, do you have opinions on whether or not we want to do anything about this?

I concur with you and Alastor, I would consider this expected behavior and close the ticket.
