Details

It would be useful to have an option to either show (default) or hide the page/ favicon icon shown on the left end of each tab on the tab bar. These icons take up a considerable amount of available screen real estate, and in most cases don't add much value to the "browsing experience" (IMHO). Having them hidden would create quite a bit of extra horizontal space on the tab bar, which can get decidedly crowded at times (e.g., all tabs having titles of "..."). This would also help alleviate the concern of crowding expressed in relation to the bug 108938 enhancement. One thing that would be lost if these icons were hidden is the animated reloading icon shown while a page is reloading. This could be compensated for by either temporarily showing the reloader animation during reloads, or else modifying the text style of the tab title (perhaps by making it a green or dark-grey color, or by italicizing).
This is basically a themes issue, no? Any theme can choose to hide those icons...
