User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0
Steps to reproduce:
Sometime in the past I removed "Google" (and many others) from the list of search engines in the search options, and changed the default search engine.
Today I opened Firefox, and clicked the "New tab" button, which opened the start page.
Actual results:
There was an unexpected "@google" item pinned at the beginning of the top sites list, which I do not recall putting there. Clicking it appears to search Google even though Google is not a search engine in my browser.
Expected results:
Firefox should not be showing Google anywhere after it was removed.

This just happened to me after upgrading DevEdition from 81 to 82.

Same problem on Firefox 95. Removed google and replaced it with something else. It just came back. No way to delete it. I even deleted search.json.mozlz4 without any effect.

I haven't been able to reproduce the issue.
I tried changing my default engine and removed Google from my list of application provided engines, but it successfully removed Google as a pinned tile. Likewise, when I dismissed the tile without deleting Google. Still, it might be due to some set of circumstances that initial experimentation was unable to reveal.
In any case, this should be solved by the likely removal of pinned search tiles.
