Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

Steps to reproduce:

Right click is broken. Right click automatically clicks on nearest context menu item.

  1. Right click activates "back to previous page" action.
  • open any website and click left on any link
  • find free space and click right (first context menu item is "Back")
  1. Right click open images.
  • open any website that contains images (no images as links)
  • right click on image (first context menu item is "View image")
  1. Right click displays context menu but only for less than second - menu disappears immediately.
  • open image in new tab
  • click anywhere (first context menu item is disabled so nothing happen but menu will hide)
  1. Right click works fine when link is clicked.
  • open any webpage
  • right click on link (works fine)
  1. BTW: Sometimes middle click works like left click (pinterest)
I am not sure if it is Firefox fault. No problem when using Chromium.

Actual results:

Only way to use context menus is to push button down and hold.

Expected results:

Do not click automatically.

Hi Kazimierz, can you please run mozregression to find when this behavior changed for you? Also, have you tested in a clean profile?

See https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ for more information.

Nice tool - thanks. I used it and all versions were "broken". This made me thinking and I found a problem.

Exactly the same day I have updated Firefox I changed little option in config file of my window manager. I use i3wm and the option was "new_window" (window border width).
Firefox works fine when window-border is 0, 1 or 2px. Autoclick happens above 2px.

I fixed it by editing chrome/userChrome.css (following https://www.reddit.com/r/i3wm/comments/88k0yt/right_mouse_btn_instantly_clicks_first_option_in/):
#contentAreaContextMenu{ margin: 5px 0 0 5px }

It is Firefox's bug? QT, GTK3, GTK2, FLTK apps work fine.

As I wrote before context menu works fine only when I click on a link but is broken for images and webpage body.

This sounds like a bug in how we're doing hit-testing for our GTK backend with this i3wm window manager configuration.
