Environment:
Device: OnePlus 5T (Android 9);
Build: Nightly 68.0a1 (2019-04-11);
Steps to reproduce:
- Go to "about:compat" page;
- Press the home device button;
- Open Fennec;
- Observe the behavior.
Expected result:
After restarting Fennec the "about:compat" page is displayed.
Actual result:
After restarting Fennec "The address isn't valid" is displayed.
Notes:
Reloading the page solves the issue.
This is reproducible even if Step 2 is replaced with:
- Android Settings->Apps->Firefox tap on "Force stop";
- Go to "about:crashparent".
This is not reproducible on other about pages like: about:config, about:firefox, about:buildconfig.

Note that you have to close Fennec outright, then re-open it, not just go to your home screen.
This is presumably because we're the only about: page being loaded from a system extension on Android, and there's no guarantee that the system extension will be ready by the time Fennec tries to show the page.
kmag, is there anything we can do about it, short of just registering a "blank" about:compat page in mobile/android/components/AboutRedirector.js
, and then granting the addon's content scripts some way to modify it once it has loaded?

I just discussed this with kmag on IRC, and he suggested WONTFIXing this one. I'd say that's probably a good bet for 68, since this is minor and fixing it doesn't sound like a small matter to me.

Agree, I don't think we should block about:compat on this.

This can be closed now, as it only affected Fennec, not Fenix.
