Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

Steps to reproduce:

If I open go.cnn.com it works fine as long as the tab is not in the background. But when the tab is in the background the video stops (just a black screen) but the audio continues. I believe the video stops immediately after CNNgo comes back from a commercial, but and 100% sure about this. I have spent hours trying to resolve this, and nothing suggested by Mozzilla has helped. Not that Chrome works perfectly.

Actual results:

See above.

Expected results:

See above.

Summary: Autoplay blocking feature does not give user option to allow audio AND video to continue to play in the background. Not website performs perfectly on Chrome → Streaming video in background tabs stops. This started with ver 64.

"but and 100% sure about this" should have been "but NOT 100% sure about this". This is the only way I could find to communicate this typo on my part. Can't find any Bugzilla editing capability.

Component: Untriaged → Audio/Video: Playback
Product: Firefox → Core

Thanks for your report. Could you help us track this down by providing some more information?

When the video stops because the tab is in the background, how did the tab get moved to the background? Is the tab in the background because you've switched to another tab in the same window, or because the window with the video has moved behind another window?

If you bring the tab back to the foreground does the video resume?
