Steps to reproduce:
This is not a bug but rather a design recommendation. Please advise if this is the right place - if so I have several more.
Actual results:
When one clicks on a new folder, that folder replaces the one in the active folder tab. If one wants to put the folder in a new folder tab, one must right-click then ask for that. If one forgets, it is necessary to reset the active folder tab to the old wanted value, then create the new one with the new value. A very annoying waste of time - little for one folder but perhaps a lot for a long session.
Expected results:
I (and I expect also most heavy users) like to keep open folder tabs for the frequently used folders (especially in and sent folders for the different accounts) and only add additional tabs as needed. It would thus be much better to have the option of automatically putting newly selected folders in new tabs. I see that there is an add-on called "New Tab Button" which more-or-less should do this, but I believe that setting the default as new folder in new tab should be settable. Perhaps this is already possible, but I couldn't find it in a quick search.

The match list on the bug entry form unfortunately doesn't prioritize by bug type, or it would have presented 3-4 of the bugs in https://mzl.la/2UNudra
Please look at that list and see which ones are likely matches, so we can organize these requests. Also, there may be a couple addons that do what you want
My suggestion is exactly the same as Bug 543867 "Suggestion: Option for folders to open in new tab automatically", but that the fact that the latter was submitted in 2010, apparently without any follow-up, is disappointing. I personally feel that one should not have to use an addon to over-ride the counter-intuitive default of putting a newly called folder into the active folder tab. I am marking my suggestion as duplicate, but hopefully this will not mean giving it the same status as the forgotten 2010 suggestion? Thanks and best wishes, John
