The amount of weird content that can cause overflow when calculating time stamps is greater than expected.
None of those are a problem in themselves, and yet will cause firefox to crash.
In the review of bug 1533777, it was stated that MOZ_DIAGNOSTIC_ASSERT should be used.
I suggest we do that until we're actually ready and have covered all the required changes.
