Steps to reproduce:
Open Firefox.
Select a newspaper URL to read in electronic format.
Actual results:
Open a newspaper, eg: https://www.smh.com.au/
Right click on (any) displayed story headline, select "Open link in new Tab"
New Tab opens briefly, displaying selected story headline URL inside the Tab, BUT then immediately closes Tab, focus returns to originating page as if nothing happened.
Expected results:
In vs 66.00.03 and prior, a new Tab should have been created, with the selected story URL opened inside the new Tab, ready to read.
In vs 66.00.04, the bug is now visible on all newspapers I can test. 3 example sites that show the bug (but worked up to yesterday or so.

Works for me. Press Alt+H to bring up the help menu, then press r to restart with add-ons temporarily disabled ("Safe Mode"). Does the issue still occur?
What you describe is the behavior of ad blockers: in some cases they can't prevent pop-ups from opening, so they close them as quickly as they can instead. It's possible yours has hit a false positive and identified a regular page as an ad.

I read and explored your advice. Restarting with add-ons disabled (as above) didn't fix the proble, BUT:
Manually disabling the popup blockers (I had 3 at the same that didn't interact with each other) and then restarting Firefox every time, eventually narrowed the problem down to Adaware Ad Block vs 2.0.2.1. Manually disabling that specific add-on fixed the reported problem (above), regardless if 1 or 2 other pop-up blockers were enabled.
The 2 other pop-up blockers that don't cause the problem, either loaded singly or together are:
- AdBlocker Ultimate vs 2.37
- Popup Blocker Ultimate vs 9.7
I hope this may help some other soul in the future.
