In bug #1547135, one of the proposed changes to reduce jitter and increase performance of Anrdoid Raptor tests was to eliminate UI lag.

If there is no UI animation, then there is no lag to occur, so goes the thinking.

The patch put up in that bug (https://phabricator.services.mozilla.com/D30116) has provision to turn off and re-enable UI animation. It is easy to use them, however there are a few considerations:

  • animation settings, unlike adb modifications, are system settings and so they persist through the reboot of device
  • does eliminating the UI animation even help with the noise metric?

These need to be investigated when there are more available devices.
