Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0

Steps to reproduce:

In all version of Thunderbird up to 68
Write an email

Actual results:

The subject field is translated "Sujet"

Expected results:

"Sujet" here can be considered as an anglicism.

The proper French term would rather be "Objet":

"L’objet sert à exprimer en quelques mots le motif de la lettre"

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue.

I remember having this discussion with Benoit circa 2014-2015. In the case of Thunderbird, we decided it was too late to fix this as it might have caused more confusion than anything else. But we also decided to fix this terminology mistake in newer products. The email app in Firefox OS used “Objet” for instance, and so will any new product.

I’ll close this bug, but it will at least help document the decision.

Thanks!
