I am on Ubuntu 18.10 using TB 60.6.1 (64-bit). When I right click a link in a mail and "Open link in browser" the the TB process (that outlives the GUI), then that process repeatedly performs HTTP gets on that link. The link never opens in my browser. This very quickly gets me rate limit locked out of BMO. I figured this out while being assisted by a BMO admin last night who could look at the logs. I have to kill the TB process to stop the traffic flood.

Does it happen after Help > restart with addons disabled?

Yes, it happens with plugins disabled. Just for documentation purposes, I would like to add that the only plugin I had enabled is the Ubuntu integration plugin by MConnely, I did have some themes installed but disabled. The BMO op had also indicated that he had heard of other TB users having issues.

Is it every link you're trying to open via "Open link in browser" or just the link going to BMO's site? If we can narrow down the issue to a specific link, or option within certain links it will help us determine what the problem is.

yep. there are 4-5 potential matches in https://mzl.la/2Ea7Z8F

Summary: Thunderbird is not opening links in browser, instead it is sending 100s of requests in a short period of time and getting me locked out of BMO → Not opening links in browser, sending 100s of requests in a short period of time and locked me out of BMO

Wayne, here is one of the links that was causing issues: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1533802 .

A number of bugs in that list definitely sound like my issue.

I don't see how this could be our problem

A number of bugs in that list definitely sound like my issue.

So something like Bug 1423634 - Thunderbird won't open links in browser, spawns multiple processes, won't terminate. [linux] or Bug 1453021 - Thunderbird background process is dead after clicking link but it continously send request to the URL
