It can be that, with BITS enabled, TB would ask to restart also when the update isn't completely downloaded.

I haven't tested the BITS thing but this is a straight port of a almost equal file. So this should be okay. - And BITS is preffed of, and when landed I will test with Daily that it still updates normally.

Richard, would it be helpful if I moved aboutDialog-appUpdater.js into toolkit and created a file that can be included for the update portion of the xul under toolkit so you don't have to maintain them? I'm thinking about doing this during the next cycle and wanted to check if it would be useful for Thunderbird.

Robert, I think that would make it definitely easier for us. The main differences are the properties link and the different opening of URLs.
