Invoking another browser instance without closing the previous browser instance
will bring up the select user profile dialog and will not let you go on until
you create a new profile.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.bring up browser
2.don't close the previous instance and bring up another instance
3.Select user profile dialog will pop
Expected Results: Just a new browser instance should come up

Do you mean Mozilla should create another window using the existing instance,
like it does on Windows?
I believe so. I think that the behavior should be the same accross all
platforms. For example even in linux, you can right mouse click on a link and
say open it in a new windows and a new browser instance will open without asking
for a new user profile.

you get no second instance if you open a link in a new window !
You get only a second window from the same instance.
We don't allow 2 instances to run with the same profile because it can corrupt
the profile.
I bet you want only a new window and not a second instance and that is a dupe of
bug 122698.
it's invalid if you want a second instance and it's a dupe of another bug if you
want a better solution to avoid the profile corruption with 2 instances
