I used a blank about:newtab page for a long time, but eventually switched it back to the Pocket recommendations to try it out. I liked it when it had 3 (4?) articles listed.
Now it's too many. (I'm on Nightly, and get a whole grid of rows of 4 recommendations in different topical areas.) I liked the 3 recommendations because I could quickly glance at them to see if any seemed interesting, and then move on if not. Now it feels like one of those clickbait-heavy news sites, where I'm compelled to choose not to click on dozens of options, and it's enough to throw me out of my flow. The time required to mentally process about:newtab has climbed above the distraction threshold. Silly, maybe, when I could just ignore them all. But I can't, so for now I'll just disable the page again.
I am requesting to have a preference to display a very limited number of options. If it includes a "More..." link to open up the full set of options, that'd be fine with me; I won't be overwhelmed by the presence of a link. (And I'll only click it when I'm really intent on procrastinating.)
