User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android 10; Mobile; rv:68.0) Gecko/68.0 Firefox/68.0

Steps to reproduce:

I'm not sure if it matters, but I use DuckDuckGo as search engine. Search suggestions work fine for anything from a few hours to a day or so, and then suddenly I stop getting search suggestions.

The workaround is simple: go into the search settings, change to another search engine, go back, then into search settings again and change back. Now it works again.

Actual results:

No search suggestions

Expected results:

Search suggestions 😊

Hello,

I tried to reproduce this issue with Samsung Galaxy Tab A (Android 7.0) on Firefox Nightly 68.0a1 (2019-05-28) and I did not encounter this issue. Could you please specify the model of the device and firmware that you are using?

Thank you

I'm using a Pixel 3XL one the Android Q beta 3. Firefox Beta 68.0b5

I can try to get a couple of screenshots when it happens. Right now it's working properly but it always reliably stops working eventually. I can also use Google for a while to see if it happens then too or if it is DuckDuckGo-specific.

Is it possible to dump logs or something from FF? If so I can do that too. Or can I pull logs over ADB perhaps?

I managed to reproduce it now. When it was working, I opened Android's recent app menu and swiped away Firefox and then immediately started the app again. Now the suggestions didn't work anymore.

Going in to the menu to change search engine and then back re-enabled them.

I'll attach screenshots

Here it works

I did some more experimenting now. I can reliably reproduce with the swipe-from-recents method. It happens every time. But only for DuckDuckGo. I haven't been able to reproduce for Google.

While that suggests an issue on DuckDuckGo's side, that doesn't explain why it starts working as soon as I switch and switch back in the settings. Nor why it suddenly stops working when I swipe from recents. (And I assume when Android kills FF in the background).

Pulled this from logcat. It happens approximately at the same time as my bug, but not exactly, so I'm not sure it is actually related.

Looking at the class names it seems it might be related to the new tab page or something. But I figured I'd add it here just in case.

Hello,

I am unable to reproduce your issue, could you make a video with the exact flow? That will help us to isolate the issue.

Thanks

compressed screen recording. It starts in a non-working state, I fix it by changing search engine, and then recreate it by swiping FF away.

I had compress the video to be able to upload it so quality sucks. Let me know if you need the original.

Environment: Release 67.0, Beta 68.0b7 and Nighlty 68.0a1 (2019-06-05)
Devices: Google Pixel 3 XL (Android 9) and OnePlus 6T (Android 9)

Hello,

I managed to reproduce your issue. The issue is that if a non default search engine is used as a default search engine, suggestions are no longer shown after restarting firefox.
I will set this issue as new.

Thank you
