User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

This happens in random intervals.

After I use Firefox for a couple of minutes, if I try to search on Google using the address bar, after a few consecutive searches, the new tab with the results hangs indefinitely, trying to load the results. Closing it and attempting to search again (with the same or other terms), or copying and pasting the URL of the new tab, or trying to directly access Google search, keeps having the same result. I have to completely close the browser and re-open it to get Google back. I have witnessed the same behavior in YouTube as well.

I have attached a full profile log from this scenario (trying to access 'test' via the address bar); you can find it here as well: https://profiler.firefox.com/public/fc0ed76f4b827ea1dae81a00019ac228469d28d3/calltree/?thread=0&v=3

Actual results:

Tried to search using the address bar, gave me a tab that kept loading indefinitely.

Expected results:

Firefox should open the results tab.

Component: Untriaged → Address Bar
Summary: Firefox hangs in sending request to search in Google → Firefox hangs in sending request to search on Google
OS: Unspecified → Windows 10
Hardware: Unspecified → Desktop

I have to add, that due to the nature of bug, I don't have a specific number of tries that makes this bug re-appear. For sure, I haven't witnessed it when I open a fresh windows of FF; I have to search two or three times in seconds to get this behavior, but then again I am not in a position to manually re-create the bug. Hence, I uploaded a profile trace from earlier today that the problem resurfaced, for you to study.

Severity: normal → critical

Please don't adjust the priority field, that is for developer use.

Priority: P1 → --

one thing that looks evident from the profile is a long delay on the DNSResolver threads, that seems to point out to problems connecting to your default dns server. It may well be related with search suggestions, since they are fetched remotely.
Does it improve if you change your default dns servers?

We should be investigating the urlbar behavior with slow or bogus connections, somehow.

I filed bug 1560690 for this, it's a good idea I think.

Setting this to P5 until there's a reason to bump it up.

Priority: -- → P5

we'll track bug 1560690 and I'm resolving this as incomplete for lack of a reply.
