User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0

Steps to reproduce:

Updated from 66.0.5 to 67. Trying to navigate to any page, browser is displaying the loading animation in the tab, and "Waiting for https://website..." in the bottom left. Nothing happens.

Creating a new profile or refreshing Firefox fixes the issue.

After trying to narrow down the problem: an empty "safebrowsing-to_delete" directory in your profile seems to be causing this. Deleting it resolves the issue.

I've seen people report Firefox not being able to load anything after updating to 67 on Reddit, Ask Ubuntu, and here. Most of them seem to be on different Linux distros. I am on Windows 7.

Actual results:

Firefox no longer loads any website.

Expected results:

Firefox should load a website.

Hi

I was unable to replicate this issue. I am trying to check this on windows 7 since you are using that OS.

  1. Installed Firefox release 67 (Build ID 20190516215225)
  2. Created a brand new profile and also created an empty folder called "safebrowsing-to_delete" inside my profile:
    \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\03887adg.pablo2\
  3. When i open Firefox i see no issues at all.

Please let me know if my steps were right.

Also please please download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ and retest the problem to see if you experience the same

thanks.
Pablo

Found a backup of my old profile, "safebrowsing-to_delete" directory has a read-only flag.
Doing:

md safebrowsing-to_delete
attrib /d +r safebrowsing-to_delete

even with a fresh profile, produces the described behavior.

I can reproduce on 67.0, 67.0.1 and 67.0.2. Didn't try nightly though.

Hi Nbz

I have been trying to reproduce this using windows10 and also windows7 but i never get the result that you described.

  1. I have installed Firefox 67 Release on windows7 64bit and also windows10 64bit
  2. Then i create a new profile with the profile manager and did not launch it.
  3. I went to the profile folder, and used :
    md safebrowsing-to_delete
    attrib /d +r safebrowsing-to_delete
(in windows7 it is actually missing a "/S" because windows7 does not let you run that command without the /S in it)
  4. then i runned firefox with that brand new pofile and i am able to browse the pages.

Perhaps some of my steps are wrong?
Is ther any way you can upload a video with the exact steps that you are following? Or try it with the lastest nightly release?

thanks,
Pablo

Hi
Thank you for reporting this issue.
I believe the issue is fixed by patch in Bug 1553951.
But it will be great if you can still help upload the safebrowsing directory in your profile while Firefox fails to load any webpage.
Then I can double check if this is caused by the same problem in Bug 1553951, thanks!
