Steps to reproduce:

Click on an ICS file for things not in the calendar, for example to retrieve the address.

Actual results:

The file does not open. If you manually bind .ics files to Thunderbird, they will be attached to a new mail.
Obviously more an urgent (for me) feature request than a bug.

Expected results:

It should show the contents (and offer to enter them into the calendar).
ICS files need to be handled outside of recognizable invitation mails, as well. For instance, I get those file without a comment via Threema on the phone and just save the ICS.
I consider the calendar in Thunderbird underesteemed by the development team in the long term and strongly hope it gets more focus.
I am getting more calendar-dependent by the day and think the integration aspect gets more important for personal users, as well.

I can confirm this is the way it works as well, and I have moved it to a place where someone that knows a bit more about Calendars should be able to see it.
