Recreation of what happened.
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0
Steps to reproduce:
I typed the word "crystal" in the URL/search bar because it was the first word of the title of a song I listened to on youtube. It was displayed on the results as a suggestion as expected, so to listen to that song again I clicked on the result in the URL/search bar.
This happens with other words as well, like 10% of the time.
Actual results:
I got redirected to Google (default search engine in my browser) for a search query on the word "crysis"
Expected results:
I should have been taken to the song.

Hi @katkatcesaret, I've tested the issue even with some extension installed & pinned tabs =>cannot reproduce it.
Could you please try to reproduce it in nightly build- grab it from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/
I will set a component for the issue and if isn't the right one please fell free to change it/ - further someone from dev's team could give us a hand.

I suspect this is somehow due to suggestions added later and the results list not being frozen fast enough, I wonder if Quantun Bar implementation in 68 will help with this problem. If you wish you could test Beta and let us know if it still happens. Taking a screencast of it happening and posting it here, may also help us figuring out the sequence of actions.

When I type crystal, all the suggestions I get start with crystal. What's strange to me is that a search happened for "crysis". I guess it depends on your locale, though, so maybe that's a red herring. Although the screenshot doesn't show a crysis suggestion.
Do you remember "crysis" being one of the suggestions offered by Firefox?

I apologize for explaining it in a misleading way. What seems to be happening is that the suggestions for pages visited in the past get pushed down on the list by the search suggestions. So the list item under the cursor changes faster than one can click and the "redirection bug" happens.
Thinking about it now, this isn't really a bug, but in my opinion a bad design.
